Beautiful Loch Woods Estates is a residential sub-division located 13 kilometers north of the town of Gimli, Manitoba along the golden sand beach western shoreline of Lake Winnipeg just off Provincial Road 222.
Gimli, the “Home of the Viking”, is a modern full-service community of 2000, many of whom trace their heritage to Icelandic immigrants who first settled this area in 1875. Gimli – Norse for home of the gods – is a welcoming harbour.
The town features excellent medical, dental, pharmaceutical and ophthalmology services, two major grocery stores, dry goods stores, lumber yards, hardware stores, major automotive dealers, hotels and numerous dining opportunities.
Approximately one hour south along either highway 7, 8 or 9, is the large, modern city of Winnipeg with its amazing variety of shopping and world class entertainment venues.
Loch Woods is home to approximately 170 permanent and seasonal residents many of whom enjoy incredible lakefront views on one of Canada’s largest bodies of fresh water. For those who choose not to live along the shore, three footpaths lead from Loch Woods Drive to the beaches, and what beaches they are! With a lake that is always changing and real four-season living, there is always something to do whether that be snowmobiling or Nordic skiing on the frozen ice surface, or sailing, swimming or kayaking in the warm summer waters.
The community features many large, modern homes with well-tended gardens and flowerbeds surrounded by a lush, natural forest that harbours deer, rabbits and scores of birds. It is not uncommon to see Bald Eagles, White Pelicans, Pileated Woodpeckers, deer and the odd fox or two all in the same day! In fact, it is truly an odd day when you don’t encounter wildlife in this green haven.
Schools are just a short bus ride away in Gimli, as is a library, museum, recreation centre, hockey and skating rink, a curling rink, and in the near future, an outdoor swimming pool.
Loch Woods is an ideal retirement community, and equally a place where you can put your feet up and relax after a hard day’s work.
